Papeete 05/06/2008: Interview with Riccardo Pineri, university professor (Montpellier, Tahiti), a specialist in aesthetics and philosophy and art collector

Question: You're the owner of one of the Gauguin skulls. We now know that the real skull of Gauguin is lost, that his grave in the Marquesas Islands is empty and that several skulls are circulating. How do you feel about this ?

Riccardo Pineri: That the grave is empty does not bother me. Quite the contrary! You know well that there would be no Christ without resurrection. So there would be no Gauguin, a real artist without an empty tomb. And that the skulls are spread to the four corners of the universe is an interesting thing, a beautiful lesson on what art and artists are !
