Brussels 07/03/07: Interview with Christine Macel
Lino Polegato: You are the curator of the Belgian Pavilion at the 52th Biennial. What is your part in this exhibition?
Christine Macel: I am like a mirror, I help Eric Duykaerts to test his ideas. We discuss about the relevance of certain orientations. When an artist is in a process of creation, he has moments of doubt. It is an extremely vast field of work. It starts with reflexion and communication. It is not tedious.
L.P.: The innovation?
C.M.: We organize a “swimming-contest”. The idea was to scoff the concept of the prices, but in a very convivial way and to allow the artists to meet each other. There was the idea, because we thought of Thomas Mann's Death in Venice, of renting the Bath Hotel with its swimming pool and organizing a small swimming competition with all the artists of different nationalities. I have already an Austrian team, French, Belgian, Italian…
L.P.: But you need the Tahitian team !
C.M.: I am pleased to meet you so we will be able to have the Tahitian team... (back) |
