Paris 14/03/07: Interview with Davide Croff, Robert Storr and Jean Hubert Martin

Lino Polegato: What do you think of the idea of a Tahiti Pavilion in Venice ?

Davide Croff (President of the 52nd Biennial of Venice): But where are you ?...

L.P.: Looking for a site… The artists made an artwork in trompe-l'oeil and look for a good installation site. Do you have an idea... ?

D.C.: It’s a bit late now, but normally the Biennial is open to all foreign countries and why not Tahiti. But you must submit your project in time, the foreign pavilions are completely independent but the countries must choose their site on their own...
Robert Storr (Artistic director of the Biennial)

Robert Storr: You must address your request to Paolo Scibelli who takes care for the off presentations.

L.P.: Can this artwork pavilion in trompe-l'oeil work as a national Pavilion?

R.S.: I am interested in the idea of a pavilion in trompe-l'oeil.

L.P.: What would you tell people who must choose this year between Basle and Venice?

R.S.: I suggest to make them both. Railway tickets are not too expensive…

L.P.: How can you prevent Venice from becoming a fair?

R.S.: I resist so that it won't come to that... Fairs exist but that's not my job.

Jean Hubert Martin (Delegate for culture and communication)

L.P.: The appropriateness of a Tahiti Pavilion in Venice?

Jean Hubert Martin: I do not understand how until now we could make Biennials without the Tahiti Pavilion (laughing) with this door of a pavilion in trompe-l'oeil contemporary art goes down the drain...

L.P.: If you were the curator where would you install the Tahiti Pavilion, outside or in Giardini?

J. H. M.: Right in the Giardini! As an entry to the Giardini since it is a door, so that you must pass through Tahiti to enter the Biennial of Venice... Hello Gauguin!
